Biochem supports Wolgast Special School / Eastern West Pomerania

Project far more than a pure donator-receiver relationship
Partnership began in 1998

The special school is a plain building made from prefabricated slabs that would probably have had to close if something hadn't been done to the basic features. Children that need a perspective due to their often highly problematic family situation and an unemployment rate of up to 30% alone, are taught here under prevailing conditions that are far removed from corresponding support and training.

Every year Biochem not only raises the majority of the funds used to support charitable projects for the special school. No, we have set ourselves the task of drawing the attention of the Ministry of Education and the Arts in Mecklenburg/West Pomerania as well as the rural district of Eastern West Pomerania to the deplorable state of affairs in Wolgast, in the hope that the politicians will give serious thought to making relevant investments that are directed towards the creation of favourable learning and support conditions to be able to therefore counteract the creation of trouble hotspots.
Where are the teaching aids for the hand of every pupil, i.e. stimulating occupational and playing materials?
Therapeutic exercise/sports hall?
Where are the additional trained special-school teachers?

In agreement with the special school, we are carrying out the following tenders as well as the price comparisons of different projects:

  • 2000 + 2001: Remodelling of the playground from a concrete yard into a beautiful fun and play landscape

  • 2002: Establishment of a complete Snoezelen room

  • 2003: Delivery of a kiln for the pottery cabinet

  • 2004: Purchase of diverse aids for the pottery cabinet as well as further equipping of the reading room with sitting sacks and other didactic learning aids

  • 2005: Redesigning of the workshop work apprenticeship / technology
    - Acquisition of the tool cupboards

  • 2006: - Equipping of the room with diverse multifunctional tables as well as with various tools and machines

As the entire workforce is responsible for the project, the complete Biochem staff already travelled to Wolgast in 2001 as well as in 2005 during a staff outing to get an idea of how the provided funds are being used on-site. It's remarkable what has been achieved up to now just with our support!
