The Boards in Germany

The Boards in Germany are charities that collect valuable surplus food. About 20% of all our food is thrown away every day.

The goal of the Boards is to collect as much as possible of this perfectly edible food, which is still fit for human consumption, in full compliance with all legal regulations.

50 companies in Vechta County and its surrounding areas have joined in the effort to save this surplus food from being disposed of, and to deliver these products to needy people free-of-charge or for a symbolic price.

At the moment the Boards in Germany save about 160 tonnes of food daily.

In Germany there are about 400 Boards.

The Lohne Board is a charity that is supported by about 100 members.

Membership fees, donations or small contributions connected with the distribution of goods, cover the financing and running costs of the Lohne Board.

Not all of us receive our daily bread – and yet there is food in abundance. The Boards in Germany have developed into a movement that wants to strengthen belief in close human co-operation in our modern society.
