Axtra® PHY TPT is a phytase feed enzyme specifically designed to increase the digestibility of phytin-bound phosphorus, calcium, energy, and amino acids in animal diets. Axtra® PHY TPT is the first Buttiauxella phytase available in the EU and is superior to other phytases in terms of speed and performance.
Phytate, also known as phytic acid, is the main mechanism of phosphorus storage in plants. Phosphorus is an essential mineral. However, when bound to phytate, it is unavailable to monogastric animals, which lack the digestive enzyme, phytase. Fast-acting Axtra® PHY TPT works quickly to release phosphorus from phytate.
The rapid action of Axtra® PHY TPT in the digestive tract is an important feature. Phytate is both a potential source of phosphorus and an anti-nutrient because of its ability to bind to essential nutrients. Phytate binds to proteins and amino acids at the low pH found in the upper digestive tract. However, at a higher pH in the lower intestine, phytate can bind to calcium and other trace minerals.
Axtra® PHY TPT has an exceptionally high relative activity at low pH compared with other phytases. In addition, because of its enhanced resistance to pepsin, it acts quickly in the upper digestive tract to both release phosphorus and overcome the anti-nutrient effects of phytate. The net result is improved animal performance.
Axtra® PHY TPT can withstand temperatures up to 95°C during pelleting and can be incorporated either directly or via a premix. Axtra® PHY TPT—the fast-acting phytase!
