Axtra® XB L is an enzyme combination for pigs and poultry designed to reduce the negative effects of certain non-starch polysaccharides found in mixed grain diets. Non-starch polysaccharides—such as arabinoxylans and β-glucans—are major components of plant cell walls and are abundant in plant-based feed ingredients. However, because of the lack of enzymes in monogastric animals, arabinoxylans and β-glucans are not used and remain in the gut with varying degrees of physiological effects.
Both arabinoxylans and β-glucans bind with water in the intestines, resulting in the formation of gels that increase the viscosity of the intestinal contents. The increase in viscosity of the intestinal contents associated with increased gel formation negatively affects digestion and nutrient absorption.
Axtra® XB L overcomes the anti-nutrient effects of arabinoxylan and β-glucan and promotes a consistent improvement in digestibility. The improved digestibility provided by Axtra® XB L results in better feed conversion and weight gain, which improves animal performance and increases profitability.
