Biochem Celebrates 40 Years of Innovation and Sustainability.
Founded in 1986, the German feed additive specialist marks four decades of enhancing animal health and sustainable performance across more than 90 markets.
Lohne, Germany – May 2026. Biochem continues its 40th-anniversary celebrations this month, marking four decades of providing science-backed feeding concepts to the global animal nutrition industry. Since its founding in 1986 by Eckhard Thölke, the company has evolved from a regional provider into an international company. Today, Biochem delivers tailored solutions to over 90 markets worldwide.
The company’s sustained growth is driven by a team of 400 experts who develop integrated solutions to improve nutrient utilization, animal health, and performance. This milestone follows a period of significant strategic expansion, including the establishment of 15 subsidiaries across four continents and the 2022 opening of a modern production plant and office complex in Lohne, Germany.
“Since 1986, we have relied on science-backed concepts that unite environmental responsibility and economic performance. Under the 'Feed Safety for Food Safety®' philosophy, we develop feeding solutions that conserve resources and reduce emissions directly at the source—the feed itself," explains Dr. Alexander Grafe, CEO at Biochem. “By combining scientific expertise with practical experience, we provide the best possible support to our partners worldwide. Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering integrated solutions that meet the evolving sustainability and animal welfare needs of the global livestock and pet food sectors.”
To meet increasing global demand, Biochem strengthened its market position in 2025. A major strategic milestone was the acquisition of BASF’s glycinate business. In the same year, the company acquired a 5,600 square meter (approx. 60,277 square feet) warehouse in the Oldenburger Münsterland region to further solidify its supply chain.
These investments underscore Biochem’s role as a pioneer in organic trace minerals. They also ensure the reliable global delivery of key innovations, such as the TechnoSpore® probiotic and the BetaTrace® trace mineral complex.
