Your Key to Improve Animal Health and Productivity: 3 Reasons You Should Be Using Liquid Feed Supplements

Liquid feed supplements are powerful nutritional tools designed to improve animal health and well-being in times of increased nutritional requirements. Comprehensive, liquid solutions having a wide range of ingredients such as vitamins, amino acids, and essential oils can provide additional nutrients via drinking water to quickly compensate for any gap (Figure 1).

Not only do they promise to be easy to mix, handle, and administer, but they also provide an efficient way to deliver therapeutic and nutritious substances to animals, during phases of rapid growth, disease, veterinary treatment, or vaccinations, or in stressful times.

Here are three reasons why you should use liquid supplements to benefit your animals and your business.

Figure 1: Possible options for use in drinking waterFigure 1: Possible options for use in drinking water.

1. Farm managers have complete control.

Liquid feed supplements allow farm managers to control the type, dosage, and duration of supplement administration, providing precise control over animal nutrition. One of the key strengths of liquid feed supplements is the flexibility to provide specific nutrient combinations to meet the specific needs of the animals.

This flexibility allows farmers and nutritionists to fine-tune feeding programs to optimize animal health and productivity, allowing the producer to respond quickly, accurately, and autonomously. This ensures optimal nutrition tailored to different growth stages, production goals, and specific animal needs.

Liquid feed supplements can streamline the administration process, saving valuable time and labor. They can be added directly to drinking water, resulting in improved efficiency, labor savings, and more accurate dosing. And it can be done with precision. A producer can supplement an entire herd, specific barns, or just individual pens, resulting in conserving money and resources and underscores the versatility of these supplements.

2. Rapid application and immediate availability.

Liquid feed supplements offer the advantage of immediate availability. Traditional in-feed supplements require ordering, manufacturing, and delivery, and are long term across specific growth stages, making it difficult to respond quickly to an animal’s individual needs. In contrast, liquid supplements are ready to use whenever the need arises.

Liquid feed additives and supplements are designed for use in an animal’s water supply and can be applied quickly. This allows farmers to respond quickly to increased nutritional needs and provide immediate nutritional support by simply adding a solution to the drinking water.

As quickly as liquid supplements can be implemented, they can also be stopped. In most cases, supplementation is temporary, addressing a specific problem and not requiring ongoing treatment. Liquid supplements delivered through the water supply are temporary, allowing for easy removal of the supplement when it is no longer needed.

3. Water as a nutrient carrier.

Water is the foundation of life. Most animals can only survive a few days at most without drinking. Animals that are stressed or sick often reduce or stop eating but continue to drink water. In some cases, such as heat stress or before the onset of fever in disease outbreaks, water intake may even increase.

The right formulations.

A product must be more than just a liquid to be suitable for use in drinking water. In fact, products must be carefully formulated to be effective when administered via drinking water. Liquid products with fat-soluble ingredients, such as essential oils, must be provided in emulsion form for easier mixing with water.

For example, BronchoVest and BronchoVest Direct are two liquid supplements formulated to meet these criteria. BronchoVest is formulated to be diluted in water for use in water systems to alleviate respiratory symptoms. BronchoVest Direct comes in a ready-to-use form and can be given through milk, water, or feed.

These two liquid supplements are a powerful blend of natural essential oils formulated to provide support during respiratory illness. BronchoVest and BronchoVest Direct provide relief from the discomfort and symptoms associated with respiratory illness, such as shallow breathing and panting, coughing, and mucous membrane irritation, and help promote a feeling of easier breathing.

Stress Pack® Xtra targets the negative effects of heat stress and has been specifically formulated for use in drinking water, making it a simple, quick, and effective solution for maintaining animal health and productivity during these periods. Stress Pack® Xtra can support your animals even if they consume less during high temperatures.

Stress Pack® Xtra contains a powerful antioxidant to protect against oxidative stress and a natural osmolyte to provide osmotic protection and reduce water loss in heat stressed animals. The addition of willow bark extract allows Stress Pack® Xtra to be used both seasonally, when high temperatures prevail, but also in situations that cause higher inflammation pressure.

Liquid feed supplements are powerful tools in modern livestock production, offering flexibility, efficiency, and rapid response to changing nutritional needs. With a versatile range of products available, it is now easier than ever to find the right solution to meet specific needs or support overall animal well-being.

Add liquid feed supplements to your toolbox today and revolutionize your farm’s nutritional strategy.
